MOON Sixteen Opal
The only object that follows the moon's phases in real time.

More Than A Lamp, A Light That Moves With the Moon
The illuminated crescent corresponds precisely to the moon as seen from your location on Earth, calculated in real time. The everyday MOON — at 180 mm, sized to live with you day to day on a bedside table, a shelf, the edge of a desk.

The lit crescent matches the moon above your home — calibrated to your location on Earth.
Two materials
The bowl is opal glass — translucent, made to carry the lit crescent and diffuse it across the room. The lid is alabaster, carved from the same stone as MOON Forty, Seventy, and Ninety.
The smallest MOON shares the material vocabulary of the largest. The opal glass is what makes it possible at €600.

MOON Sixteen Opal is also distributed by the MoMA Design Store, New York. If you are visiting from the United States, you may prefer to order through them.
How it works
Inside MOON Sixteen, a custom circuit board runs an algorithm that calculates the moon's phase, angle, and visibility from any point on Earth. Once you set your location through the companion app, the system runs autonomously. Hundreds of individually-addressed LEDs render the illuminated crescent — its shape, its tilt, its brightness — as it appears in the sky above you, in real time.
Real Moon
Exact phase and angle; lights when the moon is above your horizon — on average, about 50 minutes later each day. The closest experience to looking up.
Always-On
Shows the exact phase, angle, and lights always, whether the moon is above or below the horizon. You can turn it on and off at will.
Twin Moon
Set MOON to follow the lunar cycle from another place: a city you love, a person you miss, somewhere you'd like to be reminded of. The same moon, somewhere else.
