The illuminated crescent corresponds precisely to the moon as seen from your location on Earth. The everyday MOON — at 180 mm, sized to live with you day to day on a bedside table, a shelf, the edge of a desk.
The lit crescent matches the moon above your home — calibrated to your location on Earth.
Natural stone
MOON Sixteen Alabaster is cut from the same alabaster as MOON Forty, Seventy and Ninety, quarried in Aragón, Spain. The veins are the stone’s own, so no two pieces are alike.
It is made in an edition of 250, each piece numbered and signed.
A special version of MOON Sixteen was made for the MoMA Design Store, the shop of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where every object is approved by the museum’s curators. If you are in the United States, you can find it there.
Where it lives
At 180 mm it goes where a lamp would: a table, a shelf, a cabinet, a mantelpiece.
Two ways to live with it
MOON has two modes, set in the app. Both always show the moon’s real phase, as it appears from your location: they differ only in when the stone is lit.
Contemplative light
In Real mode, MOON follows the exact moon cycle. It lights when the moon is above your horizon and goes dark when it sets, which is about 50 minutes later each day.
Functional lamp
In Everlit mode, MOON keeps following the exact phase and angle of the moon, whether it is above or below the horizon. You decide when it shines.

Common questions
How accurate is the moon phase?
99.9% accurate. Our algorithm is built on the same astronomical libraries NASA uses, and runs on a chip inside MOON for the next 100 years.
Does MOON need Wi-Fi to work?
No — once set up, MOON runs autonomously. Connecting it to Wi-Fi from time to time keeps the internal clock perfectly in sync, so power fluctuations don't cause any drift.
Can I gift MOON without spoiling the surprise?
Yes. MOON works out of the box, and the app pairing only takes a minute, so the recipient can do it themselves on unboxing. If you'd rather pre-set it, you can; the surprise stays intact.
What happens when I travel or move?
Open the app and update your location — MOON re-syncs to the new place instantly.
Do I need the app forever, or only for setup?
Mostly just for setup, and any time you want to change location, mode or brightness. Day to day, the light object works autonomously.
What if the power goes out?
MOON’s internal clock keeps time for up to 3 weeks without power, so it picks up where it left off.
Can the alabaster crack or discolour over time?
Alabaster is stable indoors and does not discolour. Fine cloudiness and hairline grain are part of the stone’s character, not a defect. Don’t keep in direct sunlight or water. Clean with a dry cloth.
